      • Queenstown has an international airport located a 10-minute drive from the town centre.
      • In 2015 Queenstown International Airport carried 1,366,037 passengers for 12 months to March 2015. Growth has been strong year on year and continues to increase.
      • Queenstown has a resident population of about 18,000 and welcomes more than 100 times that number (1.89 million) visitors per year.

      • Tourism expenditure has already topped $1b annually and forecast to exceed $1.5 billion.
      • The 23rd World Travel Awards names Queenstown Australasia’s leading destination 2016.
      • We are now seeing a shortage of accommodation resulting in increases in average occupancy levels and higher room rates. These increases are now starting to translate in new hotel developments coming online with the commencement of construction of a 54 room Ramada at Remarkables Park and the possibility of an additional hotel associated with the proposed convention centre. There is also a proposed $45million 110 room hotel and retail complex for the CBD.

      • All New Zealand banks and major rental car companies have offices in Queenstown.  Most banks are open Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm and some are open in the weekends too. 
      • Because of its compact town centre, Queenstown is an extremely popular destination for conferences, seminars and meetings. Event venues can cater for up to 1,700 delegates and many accommodation properties provide meeting facilities, the largest catering for up to 550 delegates.
         
      • 99.9% of the energy generated in Queenstown is from renewable resources, mainly hydro, with small amounts from wind and solar. 
      • Queenstown's stunning scenery and world-class expertise makes it an ideal destination for shooting feature films,commercials and promotional videos.       • Full medical, hospital and dental services are readily available.  
      • There are three ski fields within 50km of Queenstown (the closest being coronet peak at only 16km from the city centre).
      • Lake Wakatipu is renowned for rainbow and brown trout fishing, as are many of the surrounding rivers
      • Tennis, squash, bowling, fitness and swimming facilities are all located close to the town centre.
      • Internationally famous hiking routes are easily accessible.
      • There are a huge range or recreational and mountain biking trails in the area.
      • Central Otago is New Zealand's highest and the world's most southerly wine region. It is New Zealand's seventh largest wine region.
      • There are 200 vineyards in the Central Otago region within a 1½ hour drive of Queenstown. Of these, 80 have cellar doors for tasting and purchasing wine and around 30 are wineries with wine-making facilities (12 of these also have winery restaurants). 80% of the grapes produced are Pinot Noir, the wine for which the region is world-renowned.

A popular holiday spot at any time of the year, Queenstown is renowned for its four distinctive seasons. 

The alpine climate means winter brings crisp, clear blue-sky days amongst snow-capped mountains, spring retains the snow but blooms into longer, warmer days, summer offers hot days averaging 26ºC and long twilights, and autumn’s brilliant red and gold colours are a special feature across the region.  

      • Summer: Hot and dry, daytime high 18-30ºC, nights generally cool 
      • Autumn: Clear warm days, daytime 12-25ºC, nights cool to cold 
      • Winter: Crisp clear days, daytime 5-10ºC, nights cold 
      • Spring: Crisp morning and evening, 9-20ºC, nights cool 
      • Annual rainfall:   913mm (36 inches) 
      • Average annual snowfall: It snows down to lake level (downtown) on average about 3 times in winter

      • Queenstown is at a latitude of 45 degrees south. Only two other countries in the world, Chile and Argentina, areat the same latitude. 
      • The Shotover River is known to be the richest gold bearing river of its size in the world.
      • In 1885 all Queenstown hotels were run by women who all happened to be widows. 
      • Set up in 1958, Queenstown's Kawarau Jet was the world's first commercial jet boat business.
      • Bungy New Zealand’s Kawarau Bridge bungy site (established 1988) was the first commercial bungy operation inthe world. 
      • The highest bungy jump in Australasia is Queenstown’s Nevis Highwire at 134 metres or 44 stories high.
      • People over 75 years old can bungy jump for free in Queenstown (the oldest person to bungy jump is a 94 yearold man from Southland, New Zealand).
